The Language of fingers is based on the Five – Elements theory. The human body is composed of Five Elements, namely Space (Akash), Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Each has a specific function within the body and mind.
Space:
Is present in between the organs and joints and within the organs. This Element creates space (room) within the body to facilitate the rest of the elements to act. Space is associated with sound and is manifested through the on ears.

Air:
Is the Element for movement. All movements are governed by this element. Air is related to touch and manifested as skin.
Fire:
Is the Element for metabolism and maintaining temperature. Fire is for digestion, absorption, and elimination associated with vision and is manifested through eyes.
Water:
Is the Element is for lubrication and is part of blood, tears, saliva digestive juices, sweat, urine, semen, etc. It is related to taste and is manifested as tongue.
Earth:
Is the Element for giving structure and solidity to the body. It is the constituent of skin nails, bones, muscles and tissue cells. It is associated with smell and is manifested as nose.
The five basic Elements are the expansion of the three humors namely Vata, Pitta, Kapha.
VATA:
Vata humor is formed by air and space. Vata means movement. Its primary seat is colon.
Inhalation, Exhalation, Circulation, Communication, Nervous System, Co-ordination of Senses – all these require Vata.
Resources of VATA:
Happiness, Enthusiasm, Energy, Imagination, Creation, Vibrancy, Clarity, Alertness, Talkative,(can we use this – Vociferous instead of Talkative), Environment friendly, Rapport, good communication.
VATA Imbalance:
Lack of Vata:
Mental and Emotional: Lack of enthusiasm, loss of memory, sleepy in the morning,
postponement, lethargy, drowsiness.
Physical: Nervous breakdown, slow heart beat.
Excess of Vata:
Mental and Emotional: Creates restlessness, confusion, worry, insomnia, anxiety,
panic, easy mental fatigue, impatience, forgetfulness (chestnut bud type), mental disorders, over enthusiasm, mentally hyper-active, compulsive shopping, window shopping, inclusive, dissatisfied, indecisive. Spending too much, wasting money.

Physical: Numbness, tremors, dry skin, stammering, breathlessness,
fast heart beat, hiccups, muscle spasm, cramps, constipation, headaches, Parkinson’s, paralysis.
 
PITTA:
Pitta is formed by fire and water. Pitta means processing. Pitta means change. Pitta means progress. Pitta means experience. Pitta means conversion. Pitta means transformation. Pitta means modification.
Resources of Pitta:
Sharp intellect, kindness, loving, good concentration, administrative ability, luxury, leadership, strong willed, self confidence, brave, adventurous, welcomes challenges, goal setting ability, desire to achieve goals, courage, digestion, absorption, elimination.
PITTA Imbalance:
Lack of Fire or Pitta:
Mental and Emotional: Lack of drive, low self-esteem, low confidence.
Physical:
Intolerance to cold, loss of appetite, poor digestion, thirstlessness, easy weight gain, scanty menses, hypothyroid, eye problems.

Excess of Pitta:
Mental and Emotional: Anger, irritability, jealousy, rage, pride, arrogance,
impatience, forgetfulness, perfectionism, time-oriented, demanding, sarcastic, short-tempered, opinionated, inclination to argue, hyper acidity, heart burn, inflammation, fever, rashes, poor eye sight, intolerance to heat, summer aggravation rashes, high B.P., burning sensation, dysentery, excessive sweating.
KAPHA:
KAPHA: KAPHA means, relaxation, stability, solidity, strength, satisfaction.
Kapha is formed by water and earth elements.
Resources of Kapha: Cool and calm, relaxation, rest, good retentive memory, slow to grasp. Affectionate; tolerant, forgiving, stamina, reserves strength, resistance to disease, Peace, physical labour, systematic, methodical, saves money, energy, words, food., not shaken by crisis, consoles others, satisfaction, stable, respects others feelings.
KAPHA imbalance:
Excess of Kapha will be similar to lack of Pitta:
Mental and Emotional: Possessive, complacency, takes a longer time to take a decision, wakes up slowly lying in bed. Needs pep up drinks, lethargy. Is happy with status quo. Stingy, Greedy, stubborn, dull, laziness, slow-learning, dull-headed, Energetic late in the night, inertia, more sleep, obesity, slow digestion , losing weight, sinus, congestion, asthma.
Lack of Kapha is similar to excess fire:
Mental and Emotional: Similar to Vata and Pitta excess.
Physical: Impaired immunity, osteoporosis, rickets, osteoarthritis,
weak muscles, hair loss, ulcers in the mouth, fever.
The Relevant Elements and Mudras - Five Elements:
  • Space – Middle finger.
  • Air - Index Finger.
  • Fire - Placing ring finger at the base of Thumb.
  • Water - Little finger.
  • Earth – Ring finger.
 Humors:
    Vata      :    Air & Space
    Pitta      :    Air & Fire
    Kapha  :    Earth & Water
1. When there is low self-esteem, I activate- Fire element.
2. When caught in a traffic jam, what we need is Space and to move. Activate Vata humor.
   3. When one is searching for a job he has to activate Vata humor and pacify Earth element.
   4. When one is to get married, pacify earth element and activate Air-element to move.
   5. When I don’t find a room in any hotel, I activate Space element to find a room.
   6. What I need to do in the night is to take rest and sleep; I have to activate Kapha humor for sleep.
   7. When my mind is highly active in the night, when I lie on bed and I am not able to sleep, I have to pacify Vata humor and activate Earth element.
   8. When my husband or wife or son yells at me in anger, I have to pacify my Fire element.
   9. When I can’t tolerate cold weather, I have to activate my Fire element.
  10. When I have poor appetite, I activate my Fire element.
  11. When I have burning sensation, I have to pacify Fire element.
  12. When I have fever, I have to activate Water element.
  13. When I want to reduce weight, I have to pacify Earth element.
  14. When I lack enthusiasm in the morning hours, I activate Vata humor.
  15. When I am indecisive, it is excess of Vata and I have to pacify it.
  16. When I have hiccups, I have to pacify Vata-humor, because my Vata-humor is in excess.
  17. In winter, my skin becomes dry, I have to pacify Vata humor, which is in excess and activate water element, which is less.
  18. When I have difficulty (confusion) in taking decisions, my Vata humor is in excess, I have to pacify it.
  19. When I suffer from flatus or gas, my Vata humor is in excess, and I have to pacify it.
  20. By nature, I am short tempered; I have to pacify Pitta humor.
  21. When there is no electricity current is off, I have to pacify Fire element, because it is hot and I have to activate Air element to get air.
  22. Many people consider me stubborn, I have to pacify Earth element.
  23. I want to be flexible, I have to activate Air element and pacify Earth element.
  24. I am fond of ice-creams and ice-cold drinks, I have to pacify Fire element.
  25. I get angry whenever anybody disagrees with me, I think, I have to pacify Fire element.
  26. I know I am critical of others, I have to pacify my Fire element and activate Earth element.
  27. I want to put on weight, I activate Earth element and pacify Fire element.
  28. I gain weight more easily; I have to pacify Kapha humor.
  29. I don’t grasp anything easily, I have to activate Fire element and pacify Earth element.
